NEVERMORE Frontman Discusses Upcoming 'The Year Of The Voyager' DVD

October 25, 2008

Denmark's Antenna recently conducted an interview with NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane about the band's new live DVD+CD, "The Year Of The Voyager". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Antenna: First off all, why this particular show from Bochum in Gemany?

Warrel: [laughs]… I think it might have been easier, because our record company is based here, Bochum is very nearby and we were using a German company called Roax, which produces very good stuff for DVDs. The outcome is so good, and I'm very pleased with the final DVD. We just had a great night, that night, the crowd was awesome and seriously, it was one of the best shows the band has ever played. It was scary at first because we knew we would only have one chance, and you know, sometimes bands film multiple shows if anything should go wrong but we were really lucky and did this one major shoot at the show in Bochum, and it really turned out well, we're so happy with it!

Antenna: Actually I was wondering if it was taped over several nights…

Warrel: No, just one… just one show, and that's why we were a little bit nervous [laughs] and for me the sound is just crushing! Andy Sneap did such a good job mixing this that I think it almost sounds better than any of our records!

Antenna: You recorded the show in October 2006 and now, two years later, it's finally here. Why the long period?

Warrel: It was just a struggle getting everything together and there were some… other things going on behind the scenes that delayed the release a little bit, but right now we're all relieved that it has finally come together, we know the release date and people on the Internet can not make jokes about it not existing [laughs].

Antenna: But were there any stuff that you, as the band, needed to do after the show had been recorded?

Warrel: Not really, we just shot the footage and the company took care of anything else, and that's how it all worked.

Antenna: Talking about live albums, what would your Top 5 list be like and what constitutes a good live album to you?

Warrel: Well, the audience is always what makes a live album special, I think, at least to the band. But… I can't even think of five live albums. But my favorite of all time must be "Unleashed In the East" [by JUDAS PRIEST]; I think that will never be equalled as a live record, it's simply amazing and that record is really what got me into singing! I thought, "Oh my God, this guy is an amazing singer and that's what I wanna do some day," but you never really get so many good live albums anymore so that's the only one I can think of.
